Counselling and Psychotherapy

Starting therapy can feel daunting. I offer a safe, thoughtful and confidential space where we can explore together whatever may be troubling or affecting you. You are in the driving seat. We may reflect on your relationships, life experiences, history, and the ways you have learned to cope, survive and be in the world.

People come to therapy for many different reasons. Some of the areas I have particular experience with include:

  • Addictions
  • Anxiety
  • Bereavement
  • Body image concerns
  • Depression
  • Eating disorders and eating difficulties
  • Existential crises
  • Identity and self-esteem difficulties
  • Obsessive and compulsive behaviours
  • Postnatal depression
  • Relationship difficulties
  • Self-harming behaviours
  • Sexuality
  • Trauma

My approach pays attention not only to thoughts and feelings, but also to what is happening in our bodies and within the therapeutic relationship that develops between us. I see our relationship as central to change. I encourage you to bring yourself as fully as possible, including the parts of yourself that may feel unfamiliar, hidden or difficult to express.

Usually, we begin with one or two initial sessions to think about what has brought you to therapy and whether I may be the right person for you. If appropriate I may help you to consider other forms of support, and signpost you accordingly.

If we decide to continue working together, therapy may be short-term or open-ended, depending on your needs. Sessions are usually held weekly at a regular time.
